ACQUAOUNT is an EU-funded PRIMA project developing cutting-edge digital tools to enhance Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) across Mediterranean regions. By combining Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, advanced
modelling, and climate services, ACQUAOUNT empowers both farmers and water managers to make informed, adaptive, and sustainable decisions.
Project Rationale
ACQUAOUNT is driven by the urgent need to address escalating water scarcity, especially in Mediterranean agricultural areas. The project harnesses digitalisation to improve water productivity and support IWRM, through the deployment of an innovative Web of Things (WoT) platform. This integrates real-time IoT data with modelling and climate services, enabling both daily decision-making and long-term strategic planning at the farm and river basin levels.
What We Aim to Achieve
ACQUAOUNT promotes a shift from reactive to predictive and adaptive water management, both at the individual decision-making (farm) level, as well as at the basin-scale management level. Through real-time data collection covering soil moisture, irrigation volumes, and integrating climate forecasts ACQUAOUNT facilitates dynamic water accounting, optimising resource use and bolstering climate
resilience.
